IOP Superconductivity Group: Early Career Prize

This prize is awarded for a single outstanding piece of work, or a coherent body of work, published in a peer-reviewed journal or journals in the field of superconductivity. The work must be carried out by an early career scientist based in the UK.

Nominations 2025

The IOP Superconductivity Group would like to invite nominations for the Early Career Prize 2025. The prize is awarded annually for outstanding work published in peer-reviewed journals in the field of superconductivity by an early career researcher working in the UK.

The prize consists of a £200 cash prize and a certificate. If circumstances permit, the prize will be awarded at a conference supported by the group or otherwise equivalent event and we will endeavour for the winner to be invited to give a prize talk to increase the visibility of their work.

Eligibility

Candidates should normally have no more than eight years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience prior to the date of receipt of the nomination. Career breaks or time spent in employment not related to research do not count towards the eight-year period, but in these instances a brief career history would be helpful.

The published work on which the nomination is based should have been carried out while the nominee was employed at a UK or Irish institution and have been performed predominantly after a PhD and before an independent permanent research position was held.

Nomination process

You can nominate yourself or someone else for this award. All nominations will be judged in the same way regardless of the method of nomination.

If you are nominating someone else, you should inform the nominee as you will need to provide their contact details and they will be contacted following submission to complete an optional equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) monitoring form.

Nominators must submit:

  • the name and contact details of the nominee;
  • a one-page summary of the paper(s) highlighting the importance of the work;
  • electronic copies of the paper(s); and
  • a letter of support from a senior co-author, or if no senior author is available, then a senior faculty member or head of department.

The prize committee will be drawn from members of the group committee after all the nominations have been received.
