Space Group
This is an IOP special interest group, which is a community of IOP members focused on a particular discipline, application or area of interest.
Special interest groups allow members to connect and share knowledge and ideas. The IOP funds groups to deliver a range of activities including events, prizes and bursaries. All of our groups are driven by members.
About the group
Our group is open to all (not just physicists)!
Our mission statement is: “Promoting, representing and connecting interested parties within the space domain.”
The mission statement expands to:
- Promoting – providing a platform for space domain participants to use for ideation, collaboration, and facilitation.
- Representing – people with a physics-background that now work in a related field in the space domain that are not represented by any other group.
- Connecting – creating a space where knowledge sharing and networking can take place between interested parties.
- Interested parties – individuals, academia, government representatives and businesses.
Our areas of interest include:
- space technology;
- space science; and
- inclusive careers in a diverse space talent pool.
What the group does
We are a group whose goal is to inspire everyone about space! We will:
- publicise the space domain;
- showcase space-related careers and careers events;
- provide opportunities for everyone to be involved in all things relating to space and the latest advancements;
- provide a physics-based platform to deliberate the latest topics on space technology and science; and
- occasionally hold online watch parties of launch events on our YouTube channel.
