A message to members from new CEO
9 June 2022
Tom Grinyer has joined this week as the new Chief Executive Officer of the IOP Group.
I am delighted to be joining the IOP at such an important time. My predecessor Paul Hardaker leaves us a strong legacy, including our homes in London and (opening later this year) in Dublin, and an inspiring strategy. We are incredibly well-positioned to play a leading role as we emerge from COVID-19, continue to tackle climate change, seek to cement science and physics in the post-Brexit landscape, and face up to the equality, diversity and inclusion challenges in our sector.
The IOP is the sixth membership organisation and third as chief executive that I have worked for in the past 25 years, half of which has been in the science-based healthcare sector. The British Medical Association, which I have just left, included a substantial specialist publishing business. My experience has underlined to me the importance of the STEM sector, the central importance of physics, and the challenges and opportunities we face.
I would like to thank the many staff and members I have already met for such a warm welcome. Like every membership organisation, the IOP is nothing without its members and staff working together. For the IOP to continue to be successful, it is crucial that we understand what you want and need us to do on your behalf, taking your message to the very top of governments across UK and Ireland and globally where relevant.
Over the next few months, I will be listening and learning, and I look forward to meeting as many members as I can. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me at: [email protected].
