Information on holding physical events

Updated information for members on planning events in 2021.

All IOP events will continue to be held online until at least 30 September 2021. We will consider the reintroduction of physical events to go ahead from the beginning of October 2021 in our London building and other IOP and external venues across the UK and Ireland as local government guidelines allow. If you are planning for a physical event or external meetings, please consider safe social distancing measures and other ways to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Our decision to hold physical events from October 2021 is in line with governmental guidelines on social gatherings, and is subject to change. We will continue to monitor the guidance and share any changes that may impact physical events. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]

When will I be able to visit the London office and use the member facilities?

The IOP’s London office is due to open to members from the beginning of October 2021. This is subject to members being permitted to travel outside of their local areas, and these timings may change in line with governmental guidelines. We will keep these Q&As up to date with any changes.

Will the Accelerator Centre be made available when the London office opens? And if so, how do I apply for a space?

We plan to open the IOP Accelerator Centre from October 2021 but will be monitoring any changes to governmental guidelines. IOP Accelerator offers 1,000 square feet of co-working and private office space in our building in the heart of King’s Cross and London’s Knowledge Quarter. Please send any enquiries to [email protected].

When will the IOP’s London office and other IOP offices be available to hold physical events?

You will be able to hold physical events at the IOP’s London office and the IOP’s Ireland office from the beginning of October. All events will be held online until this time. However, this may change in line with governmental guidelines on social gatherings. We will keep these Q&As up to date with any changes.

When might I expect external venues to be available to host my event?

All IOP events will be held online until at least 30 September. After which we will consider the reintroduction of physical events from the beginning of October 2021 at the earliest, in our London building and other IOP and external venues across the UK and Ireland. This means that physical IOP events held in external venues will not resume until this time.

What measures should I take to limit the spread of COVID-19 at my event?

There are measures that can be put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19 at an event or social gathering. The UK government provides information and guidance for people planning business events. You can also contact a member of our conferences team for further information, please email [email protected]

How much notice will the IOP give if governmental guidelines change, and physical events are no longer permitted?

At the very least, we will give you six weeks’ notice if your physical event will no longer be able to go ahead. We are continually monitoring governmental guidelines on COVID-19 for the UK and Ireland. Our COVID-19 management group meet every two weeks to review the current advice and make decisions based on this to ensure the health and safety of our staff and members.

What do I do if governmental guidelines change, and I can’t hold my physical event?

It is important to us that we can continue to support you to hold events and maintain a rigorous and rich event series. If governmental guidelines change and restrictions to large social gatherings increase, we will help you bring your event online. Please email [email protected] for more information.
