Message to our members

9 December 2021

An update message to IOP members following the latest Government advice.

On 8 December 2021 we heard the UK Prime Minister set out further COVID restrictions in England, including working from home wherever possible. This guidance brings England into line with Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland, where governments have either mandated or encouraged home-working where possible.

Having looked at the Government advice and the science, as we always do, we have asked staff that if they reside and work in England they now return to home-working until the restrictions lift.

In addition to this, our building in London will close at the end of Friday 10 December. This means we are asking everyone who has planned to visit the building to rearrange their visit. We regret that any events scheduled for December or up until 10 January 2022 will be cancelled. If you do have a planned visit or event at the IOP building and need to speak to someone about this, please email [email protected].

In line with the guidance to work from home, we also ask that any member-led face-to-face outreach event, physics talk or committee meeting across the UK or Ireland to be either postponed or moved to an online platform. Please contact [email protected] for support should you require it.

We will review the guidance in the first week of January and send a further update. We know this is a difficult time for many people having enjoyed more freedoms over recent times, including visits to offices and attending more face-to-face meetings and events. We hope it does not last too long.
As always if you have any questions please get in touch.
