IOP Scotland at the International Ayr Show 2024: Mimi’s Space Adventure

We launched Mimi’s Space Adventure in Scotland with a host of hands-on family activities and discovered what it’s like to journey beyond planet earth.

The IOP Scotland team headed to the spectacular South Ayrshire coastline to participate at the International Ayr Show 2024.

It took place 6-7 September 2024, in the STEM marquee in the Ayr Show Festival Village.

Along with volunteers, the team offered amazing hands-on activities and crafts – revolving around the themes of space and flight. Through these sessions, we promoted physics amongst underrepresented communities and shared stories about the wonderful world of physics and the fantastic career opportunities that come with it!

IOP Scotland brought fun Astronaut Training activities to help budding scientists get a feel of what it’s like to work for/in space. The imagination and creativity of children and their guardians was explored with the help of our Space Inventions activity.

Through these events, the team launched Mimi’s Space Adventure in Scotland. We distributed free copies of our newly launched storybook, which follows Mimi, her Granny and Colin the dog, as they step into mission control and embark on an amazing scientific journey beyond our own planet.
