Philip Nelson to be EPSRC's new chief executive

Prof. Philip Nelson is to be the next chief executive of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), taking over the role from Prof. David Delpy in April. He will also become its deputy chair.

Prof. Nelson is professor of acoustics at the University of Southampton, where he was pro vice-chancellor from 2005 to 2013. He has worked mainly in the fields of acoustics, vibrations, signal processing, control systems and fluid dynamics, and remains an active researcher. He will be on secondment to the EPSRC from the university, and will serve for a four-year term.
