Tajinder Panesor, the Institute’s head of international, and Abie Abison, chair of the IOP’s Nigeria Branch, met him at the Nigeria High Commission in London.

Panesor said: “We discussed how he could help to foster the IOP’s ambition to garner financial backing from the Nigerian government in support of the IOP’s objectives in this nation.

“One focus of discussion that caught my attention was around encouraging more physics graduates to consider a career in teaching. Nigeria, like several other nations across the world, lacks specialist teachers that can bring life to the teaching of physics to inspire the next generation, which would help Nigeria to develop the skills base that it needs.

“It was a positive meeting and His Excellency said that he will help us to build relationships with the Nigerian Ministry of Education.”
