The award, sponsored by AWE,  was presented by HRH The Princess Royal in a ceremony at the Science Museum in London on 14 November.

Prof. Gibson, who is professor of high energy physics at the University of Cambridge, received the award for her major leadership role in championing women in science, particularly those pursuing physics as students, researchers and academics. The citation from WISE says that she is “a pioneering woman in physics, who has made a significant difference to the position of female scientists not just in her own university but is also investigating barriers affecting the pipeline of female talent coming through the wider education system”.

WISE Leader was one of 10 categories of awards given at the ceremony. After the presentation, Prof. Gibson said: “This means that I have something to show the next generation: that they can and will be recognised if they are good at science and dedicated.”
