Incorporated Engineer (IEng)

Incorporated Engineers maintain and manage applications of current and developing technology, and may undertake engineering design, development, manufacture, construction and operation.

Incorporated Engineers will need to demonstrate they have knowledge and understanding equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology that has been accredited by a professional engineering institution. Formal academic qualifications are not the only way to demonstrate the required knowledge and understanding and members interested in applying for Incorporated Engineer should contact the Institute for individual advice.

You will need to demonstrate competence and commitment across five areas by providing examples from your working life.

Those five areas are:

  • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission, and re-cycle engineering processes, systems and products.
  • Prove technical and commercial management.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to professional standards, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment.
  • Once registered, you must maintain your status through meeting continuing professional development requirements each year.
