What's Physics got to do with Evolution?
Please note this is a rescheduled lecture, initially planned for May 2023. Attendees for the initial lecture will need to register again.
Speaker: Dr Bhavin Khatri MInstP, Imperial College London
Physicists take for granted the universality of their laws of physics—laws that work as well in Mumbai as they do in London. However, are there universal laws in biology? Evolutionary biologist, Theodosius Dobzhansky declared “Nothing in Biology makes sense, except in the light of evolution”. But surely, life is too ‘messy’ to be described by laws? “What is life?” anyway, Schrodinger famously pondered.
In this talk we will show how physics concepts are changing our understanding of evolution and moving us away from thesimple image of “survival of the fittest”
