RESCHEDULED: Artificial Intelligence (AI): Are Scientists’ Jobs Safe?

Please note this is a rescheduled lecture, initially planned for October 2023.

Speaker: Dr Jorge Quintanilla MInstP, University of Kent

AI is on the rise, and it’s making us nervous. These days, computers do everything from recognizing faces to coding software. No job seems immune to the march of the machines. But what about science? Is ‘new knowledge’ something that machines can never truly replicate?

In this talk, we will consider different types of AI, using examples from the world of physics, and show how scientists are embracing these tools. We will look ahead to the quantum era of AI and explore what all this might mean for the future of science and of human endeavor generally.

Part of the IOP London and South East (LSE) region spring/summer 2024 General Public Physics Talk Series.

Tea/coffee served from 6-6.30pm.

Lecture starts: 6.30pm for 1hr (with 15mins for questions)

The lecture is free and open to all but registration is required. Please register via the Book Now button.
