The Great Christmas Star Mystery

Speaker: Professor Michael Smith, University of Kent

The sudden appearance of the Star of Bethlehem two millennia ago is an unsolved mystery. Is it a concern for archeoastronomy, astrology or astrophysics? Professor Michael Smith will endeavour to put heavenly apparitions into perspective. He compares augers and omens, the bringers of war and destruction, and reveals the truth behind supernovae, comets and cosmic explosions. Or was it what we would now call a misbehaving black hole?

An up-to-date list of all public lectures from the Kent Physics Centre can be found here.

Part of the IOP London and South East (LSE) region autumn/winter 2023/24 Physics Talks Series.

The lecture is free and open to all. Registration is not required.
