The annual meeting for teachers of physics in schools and colleges.

Each year the organising committee, working in cooperation with the education department of the Institute, organises a one-day meeting at Rugby School for teachers of physics in schools and colleges, and teachers in training.

The 31st Annual Meeting for Teachers of Physics in Schools and Colleges will be held on the 5 June 2019 at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire.

This year will feature keynote lectures from Dr Rebecca Smethurst, University of Oxford  and Dr. Michael de Podesta, National Physical Laboratory. The afternoon session will consist of hands-on workshops providing a wonderful opportunity for teachers not only to pick up new ideas and resources, but also offer a platform for discussion and idea sharing.

Teachers will have the choice of two workshops from those listed below:

  • Embedding formative assessment in 11–14 physics teaching, Mary Whitehouse.
  • Equipment for the 12 required practicals, Helen Pollard and Dan Cottle.
  • Saturday Science: Novel Physics Projects for STEM Clubs, Neil Downie.
  • Maths for KS3 and KS4 Physics, Lawrence Cattermole.
  • Barriers to physics, Jessica Rowson.
  • The Faulkes Telescope Project: bringing the universe in to the classroom, Paul Roche.
  • Press Start – a Gameful approach to curriculum development in Physics, Richard Parker.

Costs

  • Full conference fee: £35 (to cover lunch, refreshments and speakers’ expenses)
  • Discounted conference fee : £30 for IOP members/ affiliated schools or colleges
  • Concession: £15 for NQTs/trainee teachers

 

 

This year Rugby School is unable to provide free onsite parking, due to space constraints. Alternative parking has been secured at a local car park for a cost of £10 per car. If you would like to book a parking space you can do so whilst booking your ticket.
