Pre-ITE: Physics Outreach

Lab in a Lorry

We operate a small fleet of great big lorries equipped as labs which travel round schools showcasing science to 11-14 year olds. We’ve had plenty of prospective teachers volunteering and coming to the Lab helps them to expand their skills in a slightly different environment to the classroom.

We’re happy for people to sign up as volunteers for the Lab and are always looking for more people, so the more the merrier! This year, the two Labs are in Scotland and Wales.

Physics Busking

It isn’t formal teaching. Instead it’s about starting an informal conversation about what visitors have seen and done. But it’s a great experience and some of the skills you will gain will be invaluable in the classroom! You can get up and do it yourself wherever suits you or join one of the many programmes run by university physics departments, the British Science Association or our very own Physics in the Field.
