Key skills

Key skills (sometimes called soft skills) are the ones that when combined with the technical skills gained during a physics degree can ignite your career.

A well trained physicist armed with effective communication, teamwork and leadership skills is a force to be reckoned with.

Why do key skills matter?
In an increasingly competitive job market, key skills are often the ones highly sought-after by employers. This is just as true in the more technical, hard science roles as it is in the business and commercial sector. Being able to demonstrate competence in these areas could be the deciding factor between you and the next candidate with the same degree.

In this section you can explore the four key skills of communication, leadership, networking and teamwork as well as taking advantage of the IOP's online learning resources.
