Low Temperature PdD Thesis Prize

Nominations are sought for the author of the PhD thesis that makes the strongest contribution to the development of low-temperature physics and technology. The winner will receive the prize of £150.


To be considered all theses need to be submitted between 1 June 2017 and 30 September 2018 and nominated before 19 November 2018.

Nomination process

The PhD thesis supervisor will need to email the following by 19 November 2018 (preferably in PDF format):

  • the thesis
  • a brief (one A4 page) citation including confirmation of PhD examination and final submission dates, and whether the thesis has also been submitted to another IOP group for a PhD thesis prize. This should include a summary of the major achievements included in the PhD thesis
  • the student’s CV, including publication list.

Selection process

All eligible theses will be pre-screened by the chair, vice-chair and secretary of the Low Temperature Group committee, who will short-list three theses. The winner will then be chosen by the eight-strong committee.
