We offer funding in the form of grants, awards and exchange schemes for physicists, teachers, students, schools and colleges.

We support:

  • education at all levels
  • research of new and developing ideas
  • events in the UK and overseas
  • travel for networking and sharing ideas
  • physicists in times of need
  • care of children and dependents

Bell Burnell Graduate Scholarship Fund

A new scholarship fund to support full or part-time graduates who wish to study PhD physics and are from groups that are currently under-represented in physics.

Physics teachers in a classroom

Anthony Waterhouse Fellowship

Up to £3,500 for UK teachers of 11 to 19 year olds who have a physics idea to develop for other teachers. As part of the award we support recipients with links to education researchers and a network of experienced teachers.

Support for members, or their dependants, during unemployment, ill-health or a career break.

Up to £250 for members who could not otherwise go to an event or conference because they are a parent or carer.

Public Engagement Grant Scheme

Grants of up to £3,000 to run physics-based events in the UK and Ireland that raise public awareness of modern physics.

School Grants Scheme

Schools, colleges and home school groups based in the UK and Ireland can apply for up to £600 to promote physics and engineering. Grants are for materials, transport and marketing and publicity.
