Our commitment to independent, open science

IOP joins Purpose-Led Publishing coalition partners in restating commitment to open science.
The IOP today joins IOP Publishing (IOPP) and its Purpose-Led Publishing coalition partners, AIP Publishing and the American Physical Society, as they restate their firm commitment to independent, open science.
The IOP stands for physics and the physics community. We believe physics can help build a better world: driving growth and innovation, opening up opportunity, unlocking the secrets of our universe and helping us tackle some of the great challenges facing humanity.
Alongside our global publishing company, IOPP, we work to further the frontiers of physics and ensure physics can deliver on its huge potential. We share the belief that science should be accessible to everybody for the benefit of all and we join IOPP and its coalition partners in emphasising the vital importance of free and open scientific exchange.
Physics will only continue to thrive with an open, inclusive and sustainable physics community, now and for future generations. We stand firm in our commitment, now as ever, to support physics skills and physics science for the benefit of society.

Purpose-Led Publishing statement
“When AIP Publishing, the American Physical Society, and IOP Publishing came together to form Purpose-Led Publishing, we made a promise to the global research community: that we would always, in no uncertain terms, put science first.
“At the core of that promise is the belief that fundamental science should be accessible to everybody for the benefit of all – and that any impediments to the free and open exchange of scientific concepts, research, or data run counter to the very spirit of science itself.
“Purpose-Led Publishing believes there has never been a more important time to stand firm in support of independent, open science. We stand with those in the US affected by recent events. We promise to continue to work hand-in-hand with the global scientific community to protect and preserve the integrity and ethical standards that serve as the bedrock of high-quality scholarly communications.
“We will not waver in our dedication to the community, our editorial policies will remain steadfast and true to our ethical standards, and we will, as always, make science our only shareholder.”
