Number 10's ambition and clarity of vision hailed but IOP urges adequate investment.
Commenting on the prime minister’s 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution, IOP chief executive, Professor Paul Hardaker said: “The government’s ambition and clarity of vision are both timely and commendable.
“I know the government understands well that such ambitious plans will require dramatic upgrading and long-term investment in our national capabilities - in our science and engineering capabilities and infrastructure, and in our knowledge and skills base.
“Ahead of the UN Climate Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in 2021, the UK government can continue to demonstrate its commitment to acting on climate change, and to protecting our economy and societal welfare, in next week’s spending review.
“Committing to increases in investment in the necessary research and innovation, education, skills and training, and its links to the levelling-up agenda, will help to underpin and enable today’s plans for a sustainable future.”
