IOP celebrates launch of Technician Commitment action plan

To mark the launch of IOP’s commitment to this vital part of the physics community, we are holding a special event today at our new building in King’s Cross, giving technicians the opportunity to network with others from across physics and engineering, and to better understand the support and career development opportunities that are available to them from professional bodies, including the IOP.

Speakers at the event will talk about their roles and the impact they have within the technician workforce. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend a range of professional development sessions and to hear employers talk about the positive contributions technicians make to their organisations.

The Technician Commitment action plan, which will officially be launched at a drinks reception in the evening, is designed to highlight what the IOP will do to support the technician workforce in the world of physics and engineering. The reception will include a presentation from Paul Cook, the IOP’s first Fellow who is a practising technician, in recognition and celebration of the valuable role of professional technicians across the economy.
