IOP hosts Nobel Laureate Professor Donna Strickland for public lecture
The IOP hosted Nobel Prize winner Professor Donna Strickland for a public lecture on Tuesday 19 February 2019, in association with the High Commission of Canada.
The recent Nobel Laureate spoke to an audience of mostly sixth-form physics students about what it’s like to win a Nobel Prize and the science behind her award-winning work.
Professor Strickland was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize for Physics, along with Gérard Mourou and Arthur Ashkin, for her role in the discovery of chirped pulse amplification. She is the first woman in 55 years to be awarded the prize.
The inspirational talk created a buzz online, with the #DonnaStricklandAtIOP hashtag reaching over 2 million people worldwide.
Physics World managing editor Matin Durrani reflects on Dr Strickland’s entertaining and candid account in the Physics World blog.
