Honorary Fellows: Sir Peter Ogden

Peter Ogden was educated Rochdale Grammar School. From there he won a scholarship to Durham University where he took a BSc in Physics and a PhD in Particle Physics before going on to complete an MBA at Harvard Business School.

A career in investment banking followed, principally with Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley.

He set up the Ogden Charitable Trust with the proceeds from the floatation of Computacenter - the computer services company which he co-founded - with the intention of helping bright children from low income backgrounds, and supporting science education.  Sir Peter’s philanthropy also helped inspire and establish The Ogden Centre, a world-leading centre of excellence in fundamental physics research at Durham University.

Sir Peter has made a profound difference to the lives of individuals, to places of learning, and to society, through his championship of education in the sciences in general and in physics in particular.  He has sponsored over 50 state schools to become specialist colleges and is now engaged with them to enhance physics delivery particularly in the 16-19 age group

Peter Ogden received a knighthood in 2005 for services to education.
