Honorary Fellows: Professor Jon Ogborn

Jon Ogborn directed two of the UK’s most innovative school physics education projects (Nuffield Advanced Physics Project and Advancing Physics) of his era. These projects actively involved university physicists alongside classroom teachers and have influenced the teaching of physics both at home and abroad.
Ogborn’s clarity and depth of understanding of both physics and pedagogical issues are such that he has the ability to inspire confidence and generate enthusiasm among a wide range of practitioners. These qualities were not only vital to the success of the projects in terms of uptake but have also promoted significant professional development in the country’s teaching force.
In his long and distinguished career Ogborn has contributed at the highest level to education research, initial teacher education and curriculum development in the sciences. His influence on physics education has been second to none.
