Honorary fellows: Professor Ian G Halliday
Ian Halliday, a particle theorist by background, has been a key figure in the UK and international physics landscape for many years, through his role as Chief Executive of PPARC and SUPA and his membership of many important trans-national committees.
He was the originator of the RCUK Basic Technology cross-disciplinary initiative, an early champion of supercomputing, and the leader in promoting and funding e-science in the UK.
He played an important role in reversing the decline in funding for particle physics and astronomy and took the UK into the European Southern Observatory. He has welded together the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance into the largest physics grouping in the UK.
His dedication to Physics and leadership was recognized by the award of a CBE in the 2009 New Year Honours list.
