2024 Katharine Burr Blodgett Medal and Prize

Dr Christopher Dorman is Executive Vice President, Lasers Business, for Coherent Corporation, a worldwide leader in materials, networking and laser technology. As head of Coherent’s lasers segment, Dorman has global management responsibility for the company’s laser business, driving research, product development, production, operational excellence and customer focus. During his 22-year tenure with the company, he established the blueprint for Coherent’s world-class facilities for laser design and manufacturing in Glasgow, Scotland, and in Kaiserslautern and Lübeck, Germany.
 
Dorman holds a PhD in Lasers and Quantum Physics from Imperial College London and is an active leader in the physics community in the UK. He chaired the UK Photonics Leadership Group for 10 years, is chair of Photonics Scotland, is a visiting professor to the University of Strathclyde, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics.  He was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II with an OBE for services to photonic and laser technology and exports in the 2019 Birthday Honours list.
