Mayneord Phillips Education Programme launches 2022 Summer School
Today (7 November 2019), International Day of Medical Physics, the Mayneord Phillips Educational Programme launches its 2022 Summer School. The theme will be Advances in Solid State Detectors for Early Diagnosis.
Its prestigious summer school is primarily aimed at early career professionals, including NHS clinical scientists, post-graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and engineers and innovators working on product solutions in industry.
The programme aims to be inclusive and accessible to people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
The partnership today announces that the head of faculty for the 2022 school (expected to take place in early July of that year), will be Dr Dimitra Darambara.
Dimitra is team leader in Multimodality Molecular Imaging at The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. She is immediate past chair of the IOP’s Medical Physics Group.
Every two years, the summer schools accommodate around 30 students who attend seminars and discussion groups with leading figures in the field.
Many of the friendships established at previous schools have endured throughout participants’ working lives. This spirit of collaboration and connection remains a priority for the summer schools.
Anne Crean, head of science and innovation at the IOP, commented: “By combining our capability and networks, the partners bring together NHS clinical scientists, post-graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and engineers, and innovators working on product solutions in industry.
“This gives an unparalleled and unique learning and networking experience for those wishing to pursue a career in this exciting field.”
Simon Thompson, chief executive of the BIR, said: “The Mayneord Philips summer school has a place in the hearts of generations of scientists. We are thrilled to be taking part in the relaunch of this important institution.”
Phil Morgan, chief executive at IPEM, said: “IPEM looks forward to collaborating with the IOP and the BIR to deliver the 2022 Mayneord Philips Summer School for early career professionals.”
