The IOP represents the views of its members on a broad range of areas within physics.

Submissions to government consultations and committee inquiries are compiled by IOP staff, with input from its members and according to a process agreed by its Council, which has final responsibility for IOP policy.

Members are encouraged to keep up to date with, and contribute to, IOP’s policy submissions, which can be accessed via the “Public Policy” forum on members’ network MyIOP, where consultations to which the Institute is responding are posted.

Through our extensive networks within physics we are able to respond quickly and effectively to consultations, produce reports and address emerging issues.

The IOP maintains close relationships with government departments and funding agencies responsible for science, innovation and education, and regularly represents its views to ministers and senior officials.

A list of current public consultations can be found via the DirectGov website.
