The prize, which consists of a silver medal and €3000, was presented by the IOP’s then President, Professor Roy Sambles (centre) and the president of SIF, Professor Luisa Cifarell (right), during the 103rd National Congress of SIF in Trento.

Professor Vendruscolo received the award “for having brought physics and biology together in innovative ways to make highly influential contributions to the understanding of the fundamental principles of protein aggregation, solubility and homeostasis”.

The prize was instituted in 2007 and is conferred jointly by the two societies for distinguished work carried out within the 10 years preceding the award. It is conferred in even-dated years on a physicist who works in Italy and in odd-dated years on a physicist who works in the UK or Ireland.
