Six IOP members are recognised in 2017 New Year Honours

Six IOP fellows or members have been recognised in the 2017 New Year Honours.
They include IOP fellow Professor John McCanny, director of the Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology at Queen’s University Belfast, who has received a knighthood for services to higher education and development.
Professor Polina Bayvel, Professor of Optical Communications and Networks at University College London, has received a CBE for services to engineering. She is an IOP fellow and received the IOP’s Paterson Medal and Prize in 2002.
IOP fellow Professor Peter Goodhew, Emeritus Professor of Engineering at the University of Liverpool, has received a CBE for services to engineering and education.
Dr Adrian Simper, director of strategy and technology at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and an affiliate member of the IOP, has received an OBE for services to the UK nuclear industry in Japan.
Professor Iain Baikie, chief executive officer of KP Technology, has received an MBE for services to the promotion of science education in Caithness. He is an IOP fellow and received the Institute’s Swan Medal and Prize in 2015.
IOP member Keith Caulkin, formerly a physics teacher at The Bluecoat School, Liverpool, has received an MBE for services to education.
