The site’s core offering – including open and closed forums for advice, ideas, resources and networking – remains secured behind a login. But the TalkPhysics team has added to this with public articles, events and (currently) one public forum, as well as a place for the IOP’s Marvin & Milo cartoons, and more is planned.

Tamsyn Hyatt, the IOP’s education communications and communities officer, said: “Users should also notice improved search, increased site speed and a few more surprises. Over the next few months, we’ve a programme of exciting new content planned, from physics webinars with the IOP’s physics network coordinators, to resources from the English and Scottish Improving Gender Balance project.”

Hyatt, who project managed the relaunch, added: “Over the past seven years, TalkPhysics has established itself as a space for the physics teaching community to intermingle, whether it’s discussing the latest A-level practicals, asking for tips for interview lessons or posting pictures of unidentified kit from the back of a cupboard.

“These changes are designed to maintain and improve that space while helping this community get on with what really matters – the teaching and learning of physics.”
