Lesley Yellowlees is awarded a CBE

IOP fellow Prof. Lesley Yellowlees has been awarded a CBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours. Prof. Yellowlees is the first female president of the Royal Society of Chemistry and is vice-principal and head of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. She received the award “for services to chemistry”.

Other scientists to receive honours included Prof. Julia Slingo, chief scientist at the Meteorological Office, who was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire ”for services to weather and climate science”; and Ian Gray, chief executive of the Technology Strategy Board, who was awarded a CBE “for services to science, technology and innovation”.
