Lab in a Lorry receives new funding
22 October 2013
The Welsh Government has awarded a National Science Academy grant of £141,210 to the Institute to run Lab in a Lorry (LIAL) in Wales from January 2014 to March 2015. LIAL is a mobile lab that gives 11-14-year-old students the chance to take part in on-board science experiments, guided by volunteers.
The IOP’s director of communications and international relations, Beth Taylor, said: “We are delighted that the Welsh Government recognises the importance of encouraging interest in science in general and physics in particular, and that it values the contribution that Lab in a Lorry can make to this goal.”
In addition, LIAL in Scotland has attracted sponsorship of £22,000 from the Scottish government and £10,000 from Conoco Philips, which together with other contributions will enable it to operate in Scotland throughout 2014.
