Open access in the UK and what it means for scientific research

The Institute of Physics co-organised a conference on the implementation of open access publishing policies on 25 February.

'Open access in the UK and what it means for scientific research’ was chaired by Dame Janet Finch and speakers from RCUK and HEFCE set out their open access policies to robust questioning from the audience of researchers, publishers and librarians.

David Willetts MP, the Minister of State for Universities and Science also gave a short presentation and answered questions from the floor. The organisers, IOP, the Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal Society of Chemistry, Society of Biology and the Royal Society have issued a joint statement summarising the main points of the day:
