24 January 2013

The Institute of Physics (IOP) has responded to a speech given today, Thursday 24 January, at Policy Exchange by David Willetts MP, the Minister of State for Universities and Science.

David Willets

Professor Sir Peter Knight, President of IOP, said, “The Science Minister’s speech, given today at Policy Exchange, highlighted the range of positive measures our government is taking to strengthen science’s role in the UK’s economic recovery.

“It is clear that the Government recognises the potential that science has to catalyse growth in the UK economy.  The eight areas of technology listed and described today by David Willetts show how very much we already have to be proud of and to build on.

“It was particularly encouraging to hear of the £65 million being invested in the development of four campuses - to spur greater collaboration between industry and academia – one at Rothamsted Research Campus, another in Aberystwyth, Harwell in Oxfordshire and SciTech Daresbury.”
