Departments can use Juno to advance equality and diversity
17 January 2013
Research Councils UK (RCUK) has today (17 January 2013) unveiled its new Statement of Expectations for Equality and Diversity, laying out standards that departments should meet to be eligible for research council funding.
Project Juno, the Institute of Physics' (IOP) award scheme, designed to recognise physics departments that are taking steps to address gender inequality, has been cited by RCUK as evidence that departments can use to show they are addressing issues of gender inequality.
Professor Sir Peter Knight, President of IOP, said,
“We are delighted to that RCUK has taken steps to ensure that equality and diversity become more embedded in institutions receiving research council funding.
"Many physics departments have already reaped huge benefits from being involved in our Project Juno and they will be able to use this award to demonstrate to RCUK their own commitment to embedding equality."
