Last chance to apply for £20,000 scholarship
20 June 2012
Applications for IOP Teacher Training Scholarships will be drawing to a close soon with the final deadline for 2012 on 2 July.
Since launching the programme in November last year, more than 450 applications have been received and six application rounds and assessment days have been run.
Charles Tracy, head of education pre-19 at the Institute of Physics, said, “If you’re interested in training to become a physics or physics with maths teacher next year, don’t miss the opportunity to apply for one of our 100 scholarships.”
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an assessment day at the end of July with final awards being announced shortly afterwards, in time for applicants to commence initial teacher training in September.
Funded by the Department for Education, the scholarships were created to attract the best graduates to become physics teachers.
Scholarships are awarded to applicants starting an initial teacher training course in September that have outstanding physics knowledge and potential to become an inspirational teacher of physics.
Worth £20,000, each scholar will also receive IOP membership and mentoring.
