Current position
Principal Teacher of Physics in Selkirk High School.
Initial training
- BSc (Hons) Glasgow University 1975
- Teacher Training Jordanhill College 1977
- Grad. Inst. Physics Paisley College 1981
Career
Initially a geography graduate, I joined the Inland Revenue as a tax man. Having lost all my friends, I did my teacher training a year later and taught physics in Park Mains HS, eventually taking the graduate exams after a two year day-release course. In 1983 I became Principal Teacher at Selkirk, liked the town, liked the school and stayed on.
Links with other agencies
I am involved with SQA as an examiner for Standard Grade Physics and also as a member of the Science Assessment Panel.
Personal interests
In my spare time I am an enthusiastic (but decidedly sedate) cyclist and also take part in amateur operatic productions. At home I am notorious for my increasingly ambitious and open-ended DIY projects.
Aim/Mission
My aim is to promote physics education in Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders by supporting teachers and encouraging students, with a particular interest in promoting physics at Primary and early Secondary stages.
