David Cotton

I studied astrophysics at UCLAN and then a PGCE at St Martins College in Cumbria. I have been teaching for nearly 20 years with experiences in both high schools and colleges. I have been a Head of Science and have worked in some challenging schools. I currently work in a sixth form college teaching A level and BTec Science. As well as the usual work for things like exam boards, I am lucky to be an IOP Physics Network coordinator. In this role, I deliver workshops to teachers of physics. I also really like building the kit that goes into these workshops. I also work as a moderator on, where I enjoy the debate and ideas that are shared in the online community.

Professional interest
My thirst for knowledge was catered for during my childhood by an endless stream of science books from my parents. The fact that my dad was a lecturer in marine radio with a shed full of components and tools made it very easy for me to build and test the things I read about. Physics had always been the science I felt most drawn towards.
