KS3: Introduction to Gender Stereotypes

This lesson provides an introduction to gender stereotypes, some common gendered generalisations and investigates what pupils think about boys and girls as well as the phrase “like a girl”.

KS3: Gender Stereotypes and me

This lesson interrogates image manipulation and its effects on how pupils see themselves. The lesson ends with pupils identifying their own positive traits that are not appearance based.

KS4: Gender Stereotypes and Unconscious Bias

This provides an introduction to the idea that all people have unconscious biases, not just with respect to gender, but also race, disability and many other characteristics. The lesson helps pupils discuss how these biases may form, and the effects they may have on our judgements.

KS4: Gender Stereotypes and the Media

This lesson looks at how women and men are portrayed in advertising and how this stereotypical representation may affect our attitudes.

KS4: Stereotype threat

This provides an introduction to concept of stereotype threat, its potential effects on young people and some strategies for overcoming it.
