Resources and guidance for teachers

Our PSHE lesson plans on gender stereotyping, for KS3-4, provide an introduction to the concept as well as giving students tools for combatting their effects.

The classroom interactions self-evaluation template gives a framework for monitoring interactions with male and female students in the classroom.

The inclusive learning checklist is a set of questions designed to help teachers to record and extend their gender-inclusive practice.

Inclusive science teaching: 10 tips for teachers is a poster suitable for display in the staff room, giving a quick summary of the IOP’s advice and guidance in this area.

We also have a number of more in-depth resources available:

Girls in the Physics Classroom: A teachers’ guide for action is a guide for teachers on how to put the research findings into action.

Engaging with Girls: An action pack for teachers includes guidance on carrying out action research and a set of additional teaching resources.

Science: It’s a people thing is a pack of resources for running an off-timetable discussion workshop with female students.

The girls in physics videos illustrate teaching approaches that the research suggests will encourage girls to consider continuing with the subject.
