Take your time
Don’t be in a rush to secure a position
Ads for jobs starting in September can begin appearing as early as January. It can be tempting for a trainee teacher to be in a hurry to have a position sorted as early as possible.
But January is still early days in your training so don’t feel you need to have secured a job already. Certainly, tutors agree that you shouldn’t accept a job offer before beginning your second placement.
In fact March, April and May are the peak months for job ads - and some schools are recruiting well into the summer term. Believe it or not, there will almost certainly be a school which will want to take you on. As you know, science teachers are always in demand and physics specialists are in short supply.
Be warned: schools often make job offers on the day of interview and may expect an immediate answer from you. Look at the Interviews section for more information on how to handle this.
