I am a TSST course provider
Teacher subject specialism training (TSST) has been designed for non-specialist teachers of physics, and former teachers who are returning to the profession.
If your school is delivering a TSST course, the IOP has produced a number of resources to support you:
Subject knowledge diagnostic testing
The IOP has developed an easy-to-use diagnostic testing tool which you can use to assess the knowledge and understanding of your course attendees. There are 10 pre-prepared subject knowledge diagnostic tests for Key Stage 3 and 4 that can be taken by TSST applicants. Click here to view the tests.
TSST course providers are also able to create custom tests for their participants by selecting from over 650 questions. If you would like to be given access to create your own tests, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
TSST Classroom Resources
The TSST Classroom Resources contain teaching materials for schools delivering TSST courses to non-specialist teachers.
The classroom resources are available to download in PowerPoint format. Each of the PowerPoint files represent approximately one day of the course. Any TSST provider wishing to use these resources should customise the files to suit their respective course.
IOP-enabled, community-approved TSST courses
There are currently around 50 physics TSST courses in England, all of which have their own programme and course dates. All courses that have received community approval, enabled by the IOP can be found on our website.
Marketing Action Plan
We have also created a marketing action plan for schools (PDF). It contains suggestions to help you recruit teachers onto your course including advice on advertising your course, targeting schools, creating a web presence and running information events.
IOP Support for TSST participants
We have a wide variety of resources to support teachers of physics at all levels. Please direct your TSST participants to www.iop.org/teachers to find out more about classroom, enrichment and careers resources.
