A series of physics statistical bulletins, offering snapshots of the latest trends in physics education, higher education, and research.
Physics and the ethnic minorities - is there a problem?
This first bulletin looks at the applications to undergraduate degrees and PGCE courses in physics from the UK's ethnic minority populations. Following the publication of the Government's white paper, The future of higher education, there will be an increased focus on increasing applications to degree courses from lower socio-economic groups and, in particular, the ethnic minorities. This statistical bulletin asks the question, is there a problem for physics?

University physics departments - regional deserts
This second bulletin looks at the emergence of regional deserts across the UK, where the provision of undergraduate physics degrees is in decline, following the closure or restructuring of a university physics department.
