The 24th International Conference of Physics Students took place in the lovely city of Split on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia, 10-18 August 2009.
The conference is the flagship event of the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS) (www.iaps.info), of which Nexus is a National Committee member. Organisation of the conference is done by the local and national member of committees of IAPS; this year it was organised by the Student Section of the Croation Physical Society (SSCPS) (www.fizika.org). The conference lasted nine days this year, longer than ever before. Academic highlights included 99 student lectures, 55 posters and seven guest lectures, including a lecture on nanoelectronics by Nobel prize winner Klaus von Klitzing. The conference also incorporated the IAPS AGM, as well as a number of social events such as a city tour of Split, a Croatian party, a costume party, and particularly worth mentioning the traditional national party, where delegates from different countries and regions shared local food and drink and, if brave enough, put on a short performance, such as this year's UK rendition of Hey Jude.
For more information about the conference please visit the official ICPS 2009 website (icps2009.hfd.hr), where videos of the guest lectures, press releases on the conference and pictures will be made available.
The 25th ICPS will be held in Graz, Austria 17-23 August 2010. Click here for the official website. (icps2010.tugraz.at/)
