How to Join Nexus
By joining the Institute of Physics as a student member or an associate member undertaking full-time study, you will receive automatic membership of Nexus. Provided you continue to be a member of the IOP, your Nexus membership is valid for the entire duration of your degree, undergraduate or postgraduate, and up to one year after you complete your studies.
Undergraduates
If you are an undergraduate student on a physics-related course you are entitled to apply for student membership. If the degree you are studying for is accredited or recognised by the IOP you will be able to apply for a free electronic online membership for the duration of your degree. This includes all the normal benefits of IOP and Nexus membership, except that you will only have access to the online versions of the magazines Physics World and Interactions; you won't receive any printed copies.

To apply for Associate membership (postgraduate Masters or PhD students only) please use the online form here. If you were previously an undergraduate student member, please do not fill out this online form, but e-mail membership@iop.org to upgrade your membership. You will need to supply us with the details of your postgraduate course, as well as the pass grade of your undergraduate degree. We may ask you to supply us with a copy of your degree certificate in some cases.
Please note that your undergraduate student membership will be valid until the autumn after you graduate.
You are eligible for the reduced student membership rate and also Nexus membership for the entire duration of your postgraduate studies, including any period of Continuing Research Status (CRS), e.g. when you are writing your thesis at the end of a PhD. You may need to inform us if you are in the latter category, to avoid paying more than you should. Please check your annual payments to make sure you are on the correct membership grade.
