Leak Detection Fair

Held on Tuesday 4 November 2003 at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, Northampton. Organised by the Vacuum Group.

This event (run approximately every 5 years) attracted a large amount of interest with over 30 people being able to attend on the day.

There were speakers from Pfeiffer Germany on Mass Spectrometer Systems, Leybold Germany on R&D and Alcatel France on Dry pumped leak detectors, with UK speakers from MKS Instruments on the PICO ion trapped mass spectrometer, from SIRA Test and Certification on helium permeation leak calibration and from HT Products on sintered leaks and He leak applications. The organiser (S Hoath) also presented the Helitest from Varian and a talk he has prepared for IUVSTA.

Discussions covered a wide range of aspects of (helium) leak detection and some parts of the material was quite new to many of the attendees.

As well as talks and demonstrations, the manufacturer's displays included contributions from PICO, Ion Science, Leskers and HTP, plus static posters by VARIAN, Ion Science, IUVSTA and also ADPhil Limited.

Some of the material may be included in the 2nd Edition of the IUVSTA (educational) leak detection module with real applications and even video clips of He testing in theory & progress.

The meeting was generally consisdered to be a great success and the suggestion for a further event in 5 years time was warmly supported.
