PhD thesis prizes 2009

The competition is open to all students whose PhD examination took place in the calendar year 2008. Entries should be made in the form of a citation (max. 500-word) from the PhD supervisor and an electronic version of the thesis (pdf file on CD). The names and contact details of the PhD examiners should be provided as references. Publications or patents resulting directly from work performed by the candidate will also be considered.

Examples of subject areas are:

  • Nonlinear optics and spectroscopy
  • Advances in laser science
  • Coherent and incoherent sources of light
  • Metamaterials
  • Laser cooling, trapping and manipulation
  • Quantum optics
  • Microstructured photonic structures
  • Magneto-optics
  • Nanophotonics and plasmonics
  • Quantum information processing

Value: Total prize fund of £250
