Quantum Electronics and Photonics Group

The Quantum Electronics and Photonics group was founded in 1972 and has diverse interests spanning all areas of photonics and laser science, including their applied and educational aspects.

The group works towards promoting photonics within the broad academic community, industry and general public. We are keen to develop international links and co-organise international events.

We promote involvement of the underrepresented groups and members across all career stages. The work of the group includes co-organisation and co-sponsoring of the 'Photon' series of conferences, which is a flagship UK event in the photonics area, and of a number of smaller meetings and events through which we reach and engage with various professional groups within the photonics community and beyond.

The committee awards a portfolio of prizes, including the IOP's Optics and Photonics Prize, awarded in co-operation with the Optical Group.
