Annual conference bursaries

The Plasma Physics Group is keen to encourage attendance at the annual conference. The group realises that a defrayment of costs for attending the conference can be of considerable help to post-graduate students. Over the last decade the group has issued bursaries for attendance at the conference ranging in value from £50 to £150. In 2007 bursaries of £275 were offered.

How to apply
Further details about how to apply for a bursary will be posted when the annual conference is advertised.

But generally, applications for annual conference bursaries can be made directly to the group secretary and are usually processed in February.  All applicants should include their IOP membership number, a copy of their conference abstract title and their bank details in their application. All applicants should register for the conference as normal, paying all hotel bills/conference fees travel etc.  Payment of bursaries to successful applicants will made either by cheque or by bank transfer after the end of the conference and conditional on the student submitting a short report on the conference for publication on the group website.  In 2007 two different bursary schemes were in operation, with slight variations in the eligibility requirements.

Eligibility
Plasma Physics Group bursaries: All applicants must be students based at a recognised UK or Irish institution and be current members of the IOP Plasma Physics Group and be giving a presentation/poster.

AWE-IOP Plasma Physics Group bursaries: All applicants must be students based at a recognised UK institution and be current members of the IOP Plasma Physics Group and give a presentation/poster.

The Plasma Physics Group are pleased to acknowledge the support from AWE in sponsoring UK students to attend the annual conference. AWE are delighted to be able to help fund students to attend the UK national plasma meeting.

After the bursary has been awarded, a short report should be made to the group secretary for publication on the website.
